PVD hard coatings on ceramic tiles for aesthetic applications: surface characterisation and corrosion properties

چکیده
The development of innovative ceramic tiles looks for materials with improved mechanical and tribological properties as well a higher corrosion resistance (high relative humidity, daily watering, household chemical cleaners). In addition, greater durability leads to lower environmental impact. Along their functionality recyclability, should also provide aesthetic properties. Ceramic can be treated modify the physico-chemical surface by metal coatings or metallic compounds, providing an attractive sheen appearance. present paper, titanium nitride (TiN) zirconium (ZrN) were deposited on glazed porcelain stoneware industrial PVD multicathode arc deposition system under reactive nitrogen atmosphere. After process, showed gold-like colour, smooth coating thickness between 0.7 1.6 ?m. composition, scratch behaviour have been evaluated. It concluded that both are suitable use in domestic environments due stability aggressive conditions. Few references found regarding these applications, but it has proved they bring added value traditional ceramics, giving new functional ceramics decorative highly resistance.

Properties of PVD hard coatings
Last 2 to 3 decades application of PVD (physical vapour deposition) hard coatings exponentially grows. However, the use of hard, thin films in the field of machine elements is the exception rather than the rule. The main problem lies in the relatively high contact pressure and the very complex loading of machine components, which demand a hard resistance surface and a tough core. In seminar it ...
متن کاملErosion, Corrosion and Erosion-Corrosion of EB PVD Thermal Barrier Coatings
Electron beam (EB) physical vapour deposited (PVD) thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) have been used in gas turbine engines for a number of years. The primary mode of failure is attributed to oxidation of the bondcoat and growth of the thermally grown oxide (TGO), the alumina scale that forms on the bondcoat and to which the ceramic top coat adheres. Once the TGO reaches a critical thickness the T...
متن کاملPVD coatings on aluminium substrates
It is well known that aluminium is today the most widely used metallic material besides steel. The mechanical characteristics of aluminium offer an increasing application field, especially where lightweight constructions are required. The demands for improved characteristics such as higher strength and greater durability are achieved by the development of new aluminium alloys. Continuous effort...
متن کاملCharacterisation and Corrosion Performance of MultilayerNano Nickel Coatings on AZ31 Magnesium Alloy
Ni-P and Ni layers multilayer coatings were applied to AZ31 magnesium alloy utilizing electroless and electrodeposition procedures. The aim of the project was to decrease cracks and increase corrosion resistance of the coatings. In order to compare the coatings, the effect of single layer electroless Ni-P coatings with different thicknesses was also investigated. The microstructure and phase co...
متن کاملAntimicrobial titanium/silver PVD coatings on titanium
BACKGROUND Biofilm formation and deep infection of endoprostheses is a recurrent complication in implant surgery. Post-operative infections may be overcome by adjusting antimicrobial properties of the implant surface prior to implantation. In this work we described the development of an antimicrobial titanium/silver hard coating via the physical vapor deposition (PVD) process. METHODS Coating...
